A short history of LIV Systems
70 years of LIV
In 2024 LIV Systems turned 70. We marked the anniversary with a series of events, while the €8.75 million investment programme (2022 to 2025) was under way.
New zinc line in production
Our new automated zinc electroplating line, built in 2020 and 2021 to replace the plant from 1980, started production under a temporary permit. The full operating permit followed in 2026.
Investment programme
In 2022 we started an investment programme of EUR 8,750,338.51 to raise productivity, cut energy use and CO2 emissions, and digitalise the business. EUR 2,614,545.76 of it was co-financed by the EU Recovery and Resilience Plan (C3K2). The project ran from 20 May 2022 to 19 May 2025.
The same year we launched a 200 mm waste container castor, developed in house to eco-design principles.
Damjan Švigelj appointed director
On 1 January 2021 Damjan Švigelj became director of LIV Systems. He brought more than 20 years of experience in metal products, chemicals and injection moulding, in B2B and B2C businesses.
The former managing directors, Franc Gregorčič and Floris van Konijnenburg, stayed on as advisors and shareholders.
LIV Kolesa becomes LIV Systems
LIV Kolesa, the Slovenian maker of castors and wheelbarrows, was bought by Franc Gregorčič, head of the Plastoform Group, and his Dutch business partner Floris van Konijnenburg.
In the same year we produced the 10 millionth castor of the K10 generation for waste containers.
Financial restructuring
A financial restructuring put the company on a sound footing.
New generation of K10 waste container castors
We launched the new generation of K10 castors for waste containers.
New warehouse and production hall
A new warehouse for finished and semi-finished products.
A new production hall and a 400 t transfer press.
ISO 14001 and wastewater treatment
We were certified to ISO 14001 for environmental management, and built a treatment plant for the wastewater from the galvanising plant and the wheelbarrow paint shop.
Privatisation
The privatisation of LIV was completed.
Public limited company
LIV became a public limited company.
ISO 9001
LIV was certified to ISO 9001 for quality management.
Into international markets
When Yugoslavia broke up, LIV lost most of its home market and started selling to Western Europe.
New galvanising plant and 320 t press
A new galvanising plant and a 320 t transfer press modernised production.
New warehouse
A 6,000 m² warehouse and an extended production line for plastic rollers and wheels.
New production hall
A new production hall, and the start of wheelbarrow production.
Plastic injection moulding
LIV started injection moulding plastic parts.
First rollers and wheels
LIV started producing rollers and wheels.
The beginning
LIV was founded by the People’s Committee of the Postojna District. To buy its first machines, the founders sold a car. By the end of the year 35 people worked in foundry, joinery and manual and mechanical metalworking.

We make 7 million castors and wheels a year, out of more than 10 million parts in total.
OE customers
Besides castors, wheelbarrows and rims, we supply OE parts to companies in internal logistics, waste container manufacturing, food processing and agriculture.
Close to two ports
Postojna is about an hour from the ports of Koper (SI) and Trieste (IT).

Environment
Solar power
Two solar plants on our roof, SE LIV1 and SE LIV2, of 704.8 kWp each (1.41 MWp in total), save about 833 t of CO2 equivalent a year.
The investment was co-financed by the European Union and the Republic of Slovenia with €140,959.
Recycled material
Our rubber treads are made from 100 % recycled rubber from branded car tyres, and our PP wheel centres from 100 % recycled automotive polypropylene. Every material batch can be traced back to its source.
Recycled material is used where it meets the same load and durability requirements as new material. Where a customer or an application needs new material, we use it.
Heat recovery and water treatment
Waste heat from the powder coating oven cuts our building heating costs by 30 % and our process water heating costs by 25 %. 95 % of the coating powder is reused.
All wastewater from plating is treated in house and reused for cooling, which cuts energy costs by another 30 %.
Certificates
Quality management to ISO 9001 since 1995, environmental management to ISO 14001 since 2000, and SKZ certification of our waste container castors to EN 840-5 and RAL-GZ 951/1.

The ownership structure of Liv Systems is shared equally between G4 Group and Konindustries B.V., with each holding a 50% stake in the company.
This 50/50 ownership model emphasises partnership and collaboration, where both G4 Group and Konindustries B.V. play an integral role in shaping the future of LIV Systems.
